Get Your Bridal Shoes Early
Everyone wants their wedding day to be perfect, and couples spend huge amounts of time organizing details such as clothes, invitations, music, the venue, decorations and so on. Many people leave the choice of shoes to the last minute, which is not a good plan. You should get your shoes early on, so that you can wear them for wedding dress fittings, as well as have time to get used to them.
Choosing the right heel size
When deciding on the size of heel for your bridal shoes, consider the relative heights of yourself and your groom, bearing in mind how many photos are going to be taken of the two of you together. Neither of you wants to appear to tower over the other. If he is significantly taller than you, you should choose high heels, but if he is not much taller, then choose flat heels instead.
Most wedding dresses will need to be taken up or down a little during the fitting process, and you need to consider the shoes' heel height at these times. You do not want a dress which is trailing on the floor because you had high heels at the fitting, but flat heels on your wedding day, or one which was the right height before suddenly reaching only to your ankles when you put your four inch heels on.
Buying the bridal shoes first means you don't have to guess for length during fittings, but can alter the dress so it works with the shoes. If your dress is too long, especially in the front, then you could trip when you wear it, so having the correct shoes on for fittings is a really good idea.
Breaking your bridal shoes in
Buying your shoes early also means you have time to get used to wearing them, so that they are 'broken in' before the day of the wedding. It is a good idea to put them on each day and wear them for about an hour, just around the house. Be careful not to scuff them or wear them outside. Even if your dress is long, people will notice these things.
If the soles of your shoes are a little scuffed, however, it helps make them less likely to slip. You will be wearing those shoes for a while on the day on a variety of surfaces, including perhaps a shiny dance floor, and you absolutely do not want to fall. One old trick is to use sand paper to scuff the soles which works well. The more you wear the bridal shoes before the day, provided you keep them looking nice, the more comfortable they will be for the wedding day itself.
So buy your shoes early, and it will help to reduce some of the stress of preparation and to make your day perfect.
